Eat bright colored fruits and vegetables. These have the most antioxidants, which help prevent the free-radical damage to cells that weaken immunity. Vitamins C, E and beta-carotene and apples and grapes also have anti-inflammatory properties that may decrease the swelling in your airways.

Eat spicy foods to increase blood flow and thin and eliminate mucus. Drink water, which hydrates the mucous membranes, allowing it to thin and drain. Eat foods with omega-3 fatty acids: fish, almonds and flaxseeds.

Herbs you can try are: stinging nettle, sodium selenite, Aloe and Fenugreek.

Avoid dairy, sugar, wheat and food additives. These produce excess mucus.

Yoga, with its breathing techniques is good, as is exercising daily. If you are really stuffed up, try steaming your face over a bowl of hot water or in the shower.
