Gourmet clubs, or supper clubs, are wonderful for newlywed who may not have a lot of money to entertain. They are glorified potlucks and tons of fun! The group I belong has been together for over 2 years and it’s one of the favorite things we do.

Our group picks a theme every month. Sometimes it’s a cuisine, like: Indian, Greek, Italian or French. Sometimes it fits a holiday like New Year’s Day brunch, sometimes the season like a boat ride to see fall leaves while having appetizers and drinks, or an afternoon on the boat in the summer with a Caribbean dinner theme and pina coladas. Sometimes it’s around an event like the Kentucky Derby or Cinco de Mayo. One time we all made homemade pizzas on the grill and another the women got together on a snowy afternoon to make 8 loaves of bread and then the guys joined us for soups, bread, salad and dessert.

The hostess does the main course and drinks and the other couples sign up to bring an appetizer, salad, dessert and sides. We have 5 couples in our group.

Over the next week or so I’ll be sharing some of the meals we’ve done with recipes.
